Re: Zap!
Tue, January 29, 2008 - 1:21 PM2006's were not all that great in general. Some usual favorites like Turley (Hayne Vineyard) and the Ridge zins were really thin.
Some Ravenswood single vineyards showed promise (Barracia / Belloni in particular)
Mara, Bialle and Wilson were the stars. -

Wed, January 30, 2008 - 1:26 PMhey, you people that are in CA. or NV. and have lots of wine to choose from and much cheaper than here (PA. )
please don't take it for granted and all that ...
our wines are heavily taxed here and there is a new 10% poured drinks tax in all bars/restaurants/etcetra that has caused owners of said places to raise prices to make up for what they're losing anyway ...
horrible !

Wed, January 30, 2008 - 1:51 PMYikes...I try not to take it for granted. It's a fantastic event.
Bummer about the tax. That's brutal. At least they aren't keeping liquor hidden behind a counter in PA these days. -

Re: Zap!
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 1:58 PMWow. Those are some nasty policies. I'm sure the wine shipping policies are equally as draconian.
Yeah, I'm pretty happy being out here in CA. I certainly don't take it for granted.
Oh, and with regards to the Ridge Zins...I've been *really* disappointed in their zins the past couple of years. The Geyserville has really been unimpressive lately. Not sure what's going on there.
I'm still loving Seghesio, though. Probably my favorite zin producer at the moment. Also Rosenblum has never disappointed me. -

Re: Zap!
Thu, January 31, 2008 - 9:15 AMPA. is a "no ship" state for out of state wine ordering ...
you have to go through the state who of course adds their multiple taxes to the price ...

Fri, February 1, 2008 - 11:12 AMI believe there used to be an age-old custom known as bootlegging. Ever thought about driving out to Calif?
